Meet Donna Barcomb
My name is Donna Barcomb, and I am running to become your next State Representative in District 72. If you do not know me, I am a long-time Sarasota resident, community leader and am currently serving my second term on the Sarasota County Charter Review Board. I also own an outpatient physical therapy clinic and formerly served three (3) terms on the Sarasota County Hospital Board, two (2) terms as chair.
My husband and I have called Sarasota home since 1986. We’ve raised our four sons here, all attending the Sarasota County Public School System. I too have been a working mother trying to juggle the needs of work, children, volunteering and providing for a family. Like many parents, I was very involved in my children’s schools, becoming the president of the Southside Elementary PTA. In addition, I was a member of the Junior League of Sarasota, It was my time with the League volunteering that really helped me recognize how powerful teamwork and proper leadership can make a huge impact on the families of this community. In addition to getting involved and rising to President of the Junior League of Sarasota, Inc., I have also been actively involved with the Sarasota Republican Club and Sarasota Tiger Bay.
No stranger to running for elected office, I ran successfully for the Sarasota County Hospital Board in 1996 and subsequently for two additional terms. That leap into public office taught me a lot. I quickly learned that running for office is not something you decide to do on your own. You need the support of your family, friends, colleagues, and the backing of the community.
Choosing to run for public office is not a choice made easily, but I believe Floridians deserve a healthy environment to live, work and raise their families. We need to improve our public schools, have access to quality and affordable healthcare and make sure every Florida family can achieve prosperity. The impact of red tide on our community was devastating for many Sarasota families and businesses. I applaud Governor DeSantis’ immediate actions in addressing the water quality and environmental issues.
Today I am reaching out to you to ask for your support. You can count on my tireless efforts in making Sarasota a better community. In order to run a successful campaign, we need the financial backing of the community to deliver our message to the voters of Sarasota County.
